Foal

A foal is the term for a young horse, particularly one that is still nursing. The term is used for a horse of either gender until it is one year old. 🐴

Foals are born with long legs and a soft coat. They have a short, rounded head and a small, slender body. Within hours of being born, a foal is able to stand, walk, and even run.

Foals are highly dependent on their mother, the mare, for milk and protection for the first several months of their life. They are known for their playful and curious nature, and they spend their time exploring their surroundings and playing with other foals. As they grow, they begin to eat solid food, such as grass, hay, and grain.
