Hedgehog

A hedgehog is a small, spiny mammal native to parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa. It is known for its coat of sharp spines, which it uses for defense. 🦔

Physical Description

Hedgehogs have a compact body with a coat of thousands of sharp spines, or quills, on their back. Their face, legs, and belly are covered in soft fur. They have a pointed snout, small eyes, and small, rounded ears. When threatened, they curl up into a tight ball, with their spines pointing outwards, to protect their vulnerable belly.

Habitat and Diet

Hedgehogs are found in a variety of habitats, including woodlands, grasslands, and gardens. They are omnivores and their diet consists of a wide variety of foods, including insects, snails, frogs, and snakes. They have a high tolerance for toxins and are known to eat venomous insects and snakes without harm.

Behavior and Hibernation

Hedgehogs are primarily nocturnal and are solitary animals. They are known for their ability to hibernate during the winter in colder climates. During hibernation, their body temperature and heart rate drop to conserve energy.
